Retractable Awning Components
The Parts That Make Up Your Awning
Fabric
- Retractable awnings are generally made of vinyl and acrylic.
- The three layers that make up the actual awning are an outer layer of colorless acrylic, vinyl, which contains the pattern of the awning, and a scrim underneath to give the entire awning support.
Motor
- Awning motors are installed inside the awning roller and are not visible on the outside of the entire assembly.
Maintenance and Storage
- Care for retractable awnings is minimal and quite easy, since the vinyl and acrylic that they are made of is either waterproof or water resistant, as well as stain-resistant.
- Maintaining your awning only requires a yearly washing with gentle soap and warm water.
- If you live near the ocean or other salty body of water, you will want to hose of your awning about once a month to prevent corrosion and fading.
